The process - what should I expect?
Assessment and psychometric outcome measures
50 minute assessment with the client - establishing problem areas. In this session the therapist will also carry out relevant psychometric outcome measures.
If appropriate, the therapist will also arrange a detailed assessment session with parents.
2. Formulation and treatment plan
Further assessment and formulation will continue alongside evidence - based treatment protocols and psychoeducation. The therapist will inform the client of an approximate number of sessions in line with the NICE guidelines or clinical judgement which will be reviewed with the client. Collaboration with other clinicians , schools or services may also be part of our work.
The client and therapist will work together to conceptualise pscyhoeducation and strategies to the problem areas and blueprint these alongside further psychometric testing to identify improvement. Clients may book in booster sessions and can reach out again for additional work support if required.
3. Review of goals, blueprinting and booster/review sessions
What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) ?
CBT can help you change the way you think (COGNITIVE) and what you do (BEHAVIOUR) with the intention to help support the client to feel better.
CBT was developed by Dr. Aaron Beck (1921-2021) Dr. Beck was globally recognised as the founder of CBT and was one of the world’s leading researchers in the field.
CBT considers that your feelings, thoughts, behaviours and physiological sensations are interconnected. Negative thoughts and behaviours can create an unhelpful cycle. CBT helps the client to address the problems and work towards manageable goals in order to change negative patterns and improve how the client feels. Whilst past events can contribute significantly to how we are feeling presently, CBT aims to deal with current problems and consider practical ways in order to support the client in the here and now, as well as in the future.
CBT is structured and evidence-based. It requires the client to be ready for the process due to the commitment involved.
Who do I work with?
I support a range of clients both children, young people and adults. I am also trained to work with a range of learning difficulties to help support the client to access the therapy such as those with Dyslexia, ADHD and ASD.
I work collaboratively with parents, schools and other clinicians.
How effective is CBT?
CBT is an evidence-based talking therapy and is considered one of the most effective treatments for conditions where anxiety and depression are the main problems. CBT is considered the gold standard in the psychotherapy field and is included in major clinical guidelines. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE).
